DETAILED ITINERARY
We start off in Sapporo, the capital city of Hokkaido. After picking you up in one of our luxurious private vehicles, we will drive you through some truly spectacular views to the destinations of your choice.
Option 01: Hoheikyo Dam
Hoheikyo Dam was constructed in 1972 and stands at 102.5 meters tall. It was built, utilizing Toyohira river, for irrigation, for hydroelectricity and to control flooding. The reservoir created from the dam is called Jozan lake, which is surrounded by forest and high mountains. Located in Shikotsu Toya National park, the dam is in a designated environmental protection area, so cars, motorbikes, and bicycles are not allowed. To get from the car park to the dam there is a hybrid electric bus available, or it’s a 20 minute walk.
Option 02: Jozankei Dam
Jozankei Dam is a a concrete gravity dam with about 117.5m in height in Jozankei located in the southwest part of Sapporo city, and is near Jozankei Onsen. It was mainly built for the purposes of securing drinking water and electric power in 1989, and Lake Sapporo, a man-made lake, was born. A canoe can be enjoyed on the surface of the lake, and Rainbow Trout, Whitespotted Char and Ito Fish are caught in a summer, and Japanese Pond Smelt is caught in a winter.
Option 03: Jozankei Kyodo Museum
Displayed here are diorama models of the dam’s construction, and panels and models showing the natural environment surrounding the dam. The waterworks and electricity generation systems are easily explained through videos and interactive exhibits, and you can try using a manual energy generator to understand the quantity of energy that is produced.
The tour will end with us dropping you off at a location of your choice in Sapporo.
