DETAILED ITINERARY
We start off in Japan’s busy capital, Tokyo. After picking you up in one of our luxurious private vehicles, we will drive you through the three destinations of your choice.
Option 01: Icho Namiki Gingko Avenue
The Icho Namiki is the popular, ginkgo lined avenue in Meiji Jingu Gaien Park. The uniquely trimmed trees turn a brilliant golden color in late November, drawing crowds of people to stroll under the leaves or relax at one of the sidewalk cafes along the street.
Option 02: Omotesando and Aoyama
If Harajuku is the youth-oriented fashion capital of Tokyo, then the Omotesando and Aoyama areas are the mature, sophisticated older sibling. Filled with high-end fashion boutiques, groundbreaking design houses, and perhaps the fanciest cafe culture in all of Japan, spending a lot of time (and a lot of money) is easy to do when visiting this trendy pocket of the city.
Option 03: Yoyogi Park
Yoyogi Park is one of Tokyo’s largest city parks, featuring wide lawns, ponds and forested areas. It is a great place for jogging, picnicking and other outdoor activities.
Option 04: Koishikawa Korakuen
Koishikawa Korakuen is one of Tokyo’s oldest and best Japanese gardens. It was built in the early Edo Period (1600-1867) at the Tokyo residence of the Mito branch of the ruling Tokugawa family. Like its namesake in Okayama, the garden was named Korakuen after a poem encouraging a ruler to enjoy pleasure only after achieving happiness for his people. Koishikawa is the district in which the garden is located in.
Entrance fee (separate from tour price, to be purchased on the spot)
Adults: JPY300 per person
Option 05: Harajuku
Harajuku refers to the area around Tokyo’s Harajuku Station, which is between Shinjuku and Shibuya on the Yamanote Line. It is the center of Japan’s most extreme teenage cultures and fashion styles, but also offers shopping for adults and some historic sights.
Option 06: Showa Memorial Park
Showa Memorial Park is a park in the city of Tachikawa, 30 minutes from central Tokyo by train. Spanning over 160 hectares, this huge park boasts a variety of natural spaces, seasonal flowers, water features, museums and sports facilities. The park was opened in 1983 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Emperor Showa’s reign.
Entrance fee (separate from tour price, to be purchased on the spot)
Adults: JPY450 per person
Option 07: Ueno Park
Ueno Park is a large public park next to Ueno Station in central Tokyo. The park grounds were originally part of Kaneiji Temple, which used to be one of the city’s largest and wealthiest temples and a family temple of the ruling Tokugawa clan during the Edo Period. Kaneiji stood in the northeast of the capital to protect the city from evil, much like Enryakuji Temple in Kyoto.
Option 08: Hama Rikyu Garden
Hama Rikyu is a large, attractive landscape garden in central Tokyo. Located alongside Tokyo Bay, Hama Rikyu features seawater ponds which change level with the tides, and a teahouse on an island where visitors can rest and enjoy the scenery. The traditionally styled garden stands in stark contrast to the skyscrapers of the adjacent Shiodome district.
Option 09: Inokashira Garden
Famous among tourists for being home to the Ghibli Museum, locals know and love Inokashira Park for its plentiful nature and relaxing atmosphere. Located in the artistic, increasingly trendy neighborhood of Kichijoji, the park is one of Tokyo’s greenest and most picturesque.
Option 10: Rikugien
Rikugien is often considered Tokyo’s most beautiful Japanese landscape garden alongside Koishikawa Korakuen. Built around 1700 for the 5th Tokugawa Shogun, Rikugien literally means “six poems garden” and reproduces in miniature 88 scenes from famous poems. The garden is a good example of an Edo Period strolling garden and features a large central pond surrounded by manmade hills and forested areas, all connected by a network of trails.
Entrance fee (separate from tour price, to be purchased on the spot)
Adults: JPY300 per person
Option 11: Ginza
There are many shopping streets in Tokyo, but Ginza is the place to go if you want the latest high-end fashions from internationally famous brands. Offering up everything from the most fashionable high-end labels right off the runway to magnificent department stores and small speciality boutiques, there really is something for everyone in the capital’s glitziest neighbourhood.
The tour will end with us dropping you off at a location of your choice in Tokyo.
