Destination 01: Trails in Aokigahara

Trails in Aokigahara Discover Aokigahara and Fuji area Private Package Tour

The Aokigahara “sea of trees” woodlands, a primeval forest that spreads out across the foothills of Mt. Fuji. This course tours the primeval forest and caves that have appeared atop the lava flows that resulted from a volcanic eruption. The Aokigahara woodlands features a peculiar appearance as a forest that has formed atop lava flows from Mt. Fuji. Its natural environment, where one can encounter a variety of flora and fauna, is a point of pride to the world. Come savor this stunning primeval forest!

 

Destination 02: Lava caves (wind cave, ice cave, or bat cave)

Wind Cave

Wind Cave Discover Aokigahara and Fuji area

In the past, this cave was used as a natural storehouse and refrigerator, as the temperature inside stays at a relatively constant zero degrees Celsius throughout the year. The cave is furnished with a few shelves that store boxes of acorns and silkworm cocoons. It is the most easily walkable and least exciting of the three caves.

Closed: No closing days

Ice Cave

Ice Cave Discover Aokigahara and Fuji area Private Package Tour

Even during the summer, the temperature in the Ice Cave usually stays below freezing. Consequently the cave has been used since the early 1900s to store ice for use around the year. The circular walk through this cave is not very long, but contains passages with low ceilings and slippery stairs.

Bat Cave

The Bat Cave, named after its former winter inhabitants, is the most extensive of the three caves. In total the cave is nearly 350 meters long and has multiple large chambers and diverging tunnels to be explored. Some of the tunnels come with rather low ceilings.

Option 01: Oshino Hakkai

Oshino Hakkai Discover Aokigahara and Fuji area Private Package Tour

Oshino Hakkai is a touristy set of eight ponds in Oshino, a small village in the Fuji Five Lake region, located between Lake Kawaguchiko and Lake Yamanakako on the site of a former sixth lake that dried out several hundred years ago. The eight ponds are fed by snow melt from the slopes of nearby Mount Fuji that filters down the mountain through porous layers of lava for over 80 years, resulting in very clear spring water that is revered by the locals.

 

Option 02: Oishi Park

Oishi park at the Lake Kawaguchiko northern coast is a park with the superb view which can look at both lake and Mt. Fuji at a time. Various flowers bloom seasonally along a shore promenade. Flowers which bloom in profusion every season, the scenery of wide lake and magnificent view of Mt.Fuji are the charm of only Oishi park. You will feel calm if you stroll slowly in the promenade where flowers bloom while looking at Mt.Fuji.

 

Option 03: Lake Kawaguchi

Lake Kawaguchiko is the most easily accessible of the Fuji Five Lakes with train and direct bus connections to Tokyo. A hot spring resort town with various tourist attractions and views of Mount Fuji is located around the lake’s eastern end, while the northern and western shores are mostly undeveloped.

 

Option 04: Arakura Sengen Shrine

This scenic park located on the mountainside of Mt. Arakura and in front of Mt.Fuji, offers a panoramic view of the city. A lot of people enjoy cherry blossoms in the park in spring, and also enjoy hiking.
