DETAILED ITINERARY
Famed for its relaxing natural hot springs, beautiful nature, and delightful food, Hakone is an unmissable getaway from the hustle and bustle of the big cities. With amazing views of Mount Fuji and a rejuvenating onsens, one can truly have a splendid time here.
Option 01: Hakone Shrine (Recommended)
Hakone Shrine stands at the foot of Mount Hakone along the shores of Lake Ashi. The shrine buildings are hidden in the dense forest, but are well advertised by its huge torii gates, one standing prominently in the lake and two others over the main street of Moto-Hakone. A path leads from the torii gate in Lake Ashi up a series of steps flanked by lanterns through the forest to the main building of the shrine, which sits peacefully among the tall trees. The shrine is beautiful throughout the year, and is particularly breathtaking when shrouded in mist.
Option 02: Owakudani (Recommended)
Ōwakudani is a volcanic valley with active sulphur vents and hot springs in Hakone, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. It was created around 3000 years ago, as a result of the explosion of the Hakone volcano. It is a popular tourist site for its scenic views, volcanic activity, and kuro-tamago (lit. “black egg”) — a local specialty of eggs hard-boiled in the hot springs. The eggs turn black and smell slightly sulphuric; eating one is said to add seven years to your life.
Option 03: Gotemba Premium Outlets (Recommended)
The Gotemba Premium Outlets are Japan’s most popular outlet mall, located in Gotemba City at the base of Mount Fuji, not far from Hakone. The mall features over 200 stores along with a number of restaurants, a food court and a 50 meter high ferris wheel. International brands such as ARMANI, Bvlgari, Dolce & Gabbana, and Japanese brands such as Issey Miyake, Samantha Thavasa and Sanrio can be got a good deal.
Option 04: Hakone Pirate Cruise
The Hakone Pirate Ships are sightseeing cruise ships built as replicas of pirate ships. The large and splendid ships have attracted people’s attention and are quite popular. The route runs across Lake Ashi and connects three ports. It takes 70 minutes at the longest. Other than the beautiful scenery of the lake, you can enjoy strolling around in the ship and admire its authentic decor. The wind feels wonderful on the deck especially on a fine day. The three ports to take these ships are Togendai Port, Moto-Hakone Port, and Hakone-machi Port.
Cruising fee (separate from Tour price, to be purchased on the spot)> The price will depend on route you choose, it will be around JPY360-JPY1,500 per person for one way trip
