Located in central Tokyo, Bunkyo City has a charming, old-fashioned atmosphere and is known for its rich nature and beautiful flowers. Visitors and residents can enjoy seasonal flowers throughout the year. Bunkyo holds five major flower festivals annually, beginning with the Plum Festival in February. In early summer, over 3,000 hydrangeas around Hakusan-jinja Shrine and Hakusan Park come into bloom, brightening up the city during Japan’s rainy season. At Hakusan-jinja Shrine, the main site of the Hydrangea Festival, a number of street stands selling potted hydrangeas and other festive items line the path to the shrine
MAIN TOURIST ATTRACTION :
Bunkyo Hydrangea Festival or Bunkyo Ajisai Matsuri is a traditional flower event held in Tokyo annually for over 30 years. It’s the most popular event in town during the rainy season.
Bunkyo Hydrangea Festival features about 20 varieties of 3,000 hydrangea flowers around Hakusan Shrine and Hakusan Park in Bunkyo Ward, Tokyo. Hydrangea is one of the most beloved flowers in Japan, and it’s the symbol of the rainy season in Japan. Visitors enjoy strolling by colourful hydrangeas and the view of charming flowers with historical sites and the old town atmosphere.
Yanaka is one of the few districts in Tokyo where the shitamachi atmosphere, an old town ambience reminiscent of Tokyo from past decades, still survives. Throughout the district, there is an air of nostalgia and a rustic charm. It is within walking distance of Ueno Park, and offers a sightseeing opportunity different from the metropolitan city feel of other parts of Tokyo.
The tour will end with us dropping you off at a location of your choice in Tokyo.
