DETAILED ITINERARY

Ise is a coastal city in the central Mie Prefecture on Japan’s main island of Honshu. It’s known for Ise Jingu, Japan’s most sacred Shinto shrines.

We start off in Ise. After picking you up in one of our luxurious private vehicles, we will drive you through the three destinations of your choice.

Option 01: Yokoyama Observation deck (Recommended)

Yokoyama Observation deck Ise Exploration Private Package Tour

Mt. Yokoyama stands at 203m tall and is located in Shima, Mie Prefecture. It is surrounded by the Ago Bay in the south, the Pacific Ocean in the east, Kii mountain range in the west. You can see the famous Ago Bay from this observation deck. Apart from Yokoyama observation deck, there are other decks, such as Panorama Observation Deck, Miharashi deck and Ago bay observatory. Each observatory has its own distinct view.

Stairs and slopes are installed along the road leading to the observation deck from the parking lot. That makes it easy to access for people with disabilities while enjoying the sea view.

Option 02: Ise Grand Shrine and Oharaimachi (Recommended)

Ise Grand Shrine Private Package Tour

The Ise Grand Shrine is a Shinto shrine dedicated to the sun goddess Amaterasu. Its area is roughly the same size as Center of Paris. More than 1,500 rituals are conducted here yearly to pray for the prosperity of the Imperial family, the peace of the world, and the huge harvest.

Oharaimachi Ise Exploration Private Package Tour

Oharai-machi is a town attached to the Inner Shrine of Ise Grand Shrine. During the Edo Era (1603–1868) almost 400,000 people per year came to visit the Ise Grand Shrine, and the town came to be known as Oharai-machi as it provided oharai (purification rites for the mind and body designed to ward off disasters) and kagura (dancing and singing dedicated to the gods).

Option 03: Ama Hut Experience (based on availability and recommended)

Ama Hut Ise Exploration Private Package Tour

Delve into Ise’s anciently female tradition as one engages in an open-hearted conversation with the Ama, traditional female divers who have been fishing the local waters for thousands of years in Toba and Shima region. They usually gather at their humble buildings to eat and chat before, as well as after, their daily ocean dives. Each visit to an Ama hut lasts at least an hour and visitors can enjoy the delicacies grilled by Ama over a charcoal fire. Depending on the season, the seafood can range from shellfish to the most prized abalone. But nothing beats the opportunity to hear the personal experience of each diver who has dedicated a significant part of her life to the sea. Advance reservations are required and activities change according to seasons.

Option 04: Mikimoto Pearl Island (Recommended)

Mikimoto Pearl Island Ise Exploration Private Package Tour

The Mikimoto Pearl Island is an excellent museum about pearls, pearl cultivation and Mikimoto Kokichi, the pioneer who first succeeded in cultivating pearls. The island is located in the Bay of Toba, accessible via a bridge.

Entrance fee (separate from tour price, to be purchased on the spot)
Adults: JPY1500 per person

Option 05: Meoto Iwa

Meoto Iwa Ise Exploration Private Package Tour

Meoto Iwa are two sacred rocks in the ocean near Futami, a small town in Ise City. The larger of the two rocks represents the husband and the smaller one represents the wife. Both rocks are connected by a shimenawa rope which acts as the division between the spiritual and earthly realms. In a ceremony, the shimenawa rope is replaced three times a year.
