Option 01: Hakone Shrine (Recommended)

Hakone Shrine stands at the foot of Mount Hakone along the shores of Lake Ashi. The shrine buildings are hidden in the dense forest, but are well advertised by its huge torii gates, one standing prominently in the lake and two others over the main street of Moto-Hakone.

A path leads from the torii gate in Lake Ashi up a series of steps flanked by lanterns through the forest to the main building of the shrine, which sits peacefully among the tall trees. The shrine is beautiful throughout the year, and is particularly breathtaking when shrouded in mist.

Option 02: Hakone Pirate Cruise and Hakone Ropeway (Recommended)

The Hakone Pirate Ships are sightseeing cruise ships built as replicas of pirate ships. The large and splendid ships have attracted people’s attention and are quite popular. The route runs across Lake Ashi and connects three ports. It takes 70 minutes at the longest. Other than the beautiful scenery of the lake, you can enjoy strolling around in the ship and admire its authentic decor. The wind feels wonderful on the deck especially on a fine day. The three ports to take these ships are Togendai Port, Moto-Hakone Port, and Hakone-machi Port.

Cruising fee (separate from Tour price, to be purchased on the spot)> The price will depend on route you choose, it will be around JPY360-JPY1,500 per person for one way trip

The Hakone ropeway offers an approx. 24-minute journey one-way between Sounzan Station, the last station of the Hakone Tozan Cable Car, and Togendai Station, which nestles on the shore of Lake Ashinoko. Around the transfer station, Owakudani, visitors are able to view plumes of white smoke erupting from the active volcano, and enjoy a walk taking in these spectacular natural views. The views from the altitude of 1,044 meters are also wonderful, and on a fine day, Mt. Fuji, and even very far away Tokyo Skytree, can be seen.

Ropeway fee (separate from Tour price, to be purchased on the spot)> The price will depend on route you choose, it will be around JPY840-JPY1,370 per person for one way trip

Option 03: Hakone Traditional Onsen (Recommended)

Hakone has been one of Japan’s most popular hot spring resorts for centuries. Nowadays, more than a dozen springs provide hot spring water to the many bath houses and ryokan in the Hakone region. Yumoto, at the entrance to the Hakone area near Odawara, is Hakone’s most famous hot spring with a particularly long history, high quality water and numerous baths and inns. Many more hot spring facilities are found across the hills and valleys of Hakone and along the shores of Lake Ashi. Visitors can enjoy a hot spring bath in public bath houses or ryokan. Many ryokan open their baths not only to staying guests but also to daytime visitors. While staying guests can use the baths for free, daytime visitors pay an admission fee of typically between 500 and 2000 yen.

Option 04: Hakone Kowakien Yunessun

YUNESSUN spa resort in Hakone invites travelers from around the world to relax in 23 hot spring baths, including traditional open-air Japanese baths and beautifying baths of wine, coffee and sake – all in the natural beauty of Hakone.

05: Hakone Botanical Garden

Hakone Botanical Garden centers on the plant life thriving in the rivers and marshes originating from the wetlands. One particular feature is the walking path where you can look around the primeval wetlands from the lowlands to the mountains, and the wetlands that formed thereafter in order. It’s so easy to navigate that even a wheelchair can traverse the path. It takes 40 minutes to make one circuit through the re-created marshland and wetland zones. Through the meticulous construction, you can take your time looking at the plants one by one.
