DETAILED ITINERARY

The Samurai played an important part in the history of Japan. They protected people who didn’t know how to protect themselves, helped sort out disputes, they served under the emperor. Medieval japan would have been much differrent without Samurai. They were heart and soul of japan.

We start off in Japan’s busy capital, Tokyo. After picking you up in one of our luxurious private vehicles, we will drive you to Samurai Kembu workshop in Tokyo and to the two destinations of your choice.

Samurai Kembu Experience

Samurai of Edo Samurai Kembu Experience

“Kembu” is a traditional Japanese stage performance art that utilizes the Katana (traditional Japanese sword) and traditional Japanese fan while expressing the poems that were sung/recited by the Samurai.
Experience an authentic Samurai Kembu experience at a workshop gym (Dojo) located near Ginza area in Tokyo. Try on clothes that are worn in Kembu performances, learn how to handle a Japanese sword and Japanese fan the fun way and experience the way of the Samurai for yourself. Learn basic techniques of “Kembu” such as handling a Japanese sword, performing slashing techniques and some simple samurai actions. You can also learn how to handle a Japanese fan and the way of bowing and walking in traditional arts. Compete your session with perform with your sword on stage, accompanied by a song of a poem written by a samurai. There is some time allocated for picture-taking after changing into the costumes. The instructor will help you with some cool Samurai poses.

Samurai of Edo Samurai Kembu Experience

The instructors at Tokyo Samurai Kembu hold the title of ‘Kembu master’ at one of Kembu schools, such as Kinouryu Kembu school (Tokyo). With their many years of training and experience, be rest assured that you can safely and properly learn “Kembu” even within the constraints of the short experience workshops. At the end of the workshop, the instructor will give a performance. Please keep your eyes peeled for Kembu Master’s high-spirited performance.

Option 01: Sengakuji Temple (Recommended)

Sengakuji Private Package Tour

Sengakuji is a small temple near Shinagawa Station in Tokyo. The temple is famous for its graveyard where the “47 Ronin” (also known as Akoroshi, the “masterless samurai from Ako”) are buried. The story of the 47 loyal ronin became highly popular as a kabuki play during the Edo Period, and remains very popular today.

A small memorial museum about the 47 ronin, the Akogishi Kinenkan, can also be found at Sengakuji. Inside the single-room museum, visitors can view artifacts related to the 47 samurai, such as letters and armor, and watch videos (in English, Mandarin or Japanese) explaining the history of the temple and the story of the loyal retainers. A small annex across from the museum and contains wooden sculptures of all the retainers who participated in the mission.

Option 02: Samurai Museum (Recommended)

The Samurai Museum is a must-visit destination for those interested in old Japan and the storied history of combat and conflict that characterized the country up through the late 16th century. Not only will you be able to see 70 selections of samurai armor, you can also dress up in replica armor and witness combat reenactments by skilled swordsmen.

Option 03: Tokyo Edo Museum

Edo Tokyo Museum Private Package Tour

The Edo-Tokyo Museum is housed in a unique looking building in the Ryogoku district. The museum’s permanent exhibition vividly illustrates the past of Tokyo (known as Edo until 1869) through its exhibits and covers many features of the capital from the Edo Period to relatively recent decades. In an interactive way, visitors are able to experience and learn about various aspects of earlier Tokyo, such as the way of life of people, Edo Period architecture, cultural heritage, political climate, commercial situation and more. Through numerous models of towns, figurines and life-sized figures, the museum makes it interesting to find out about how towns were constructed in the past.

Option 04: The Japanese Sword Museum

The Japanese Sword Museum Private Package Tour

The Japanese Sword Museum is dedicated to the art of Japanese swordmaking. Run by the Society for the Preservation of Japanese Art Swords, visit this museum and receive a fascinating insight into Japanese weaponry. The collection contains many swords that have been awarded special status for their important cultural value.

Adults: JPY1,000 per person / Students above 15 years old : JPY500.
