DETAILED ITINERARY

Situated in-between Yamagata Prefecture and Miyagi Prefecture sits Mount Zao, an active and complex volcano, which houses a hot spring town and many attractions to explore.  We start our tour off in Tohoku’s largest city, Sendai, located two hours aways from Zao. After picking you up in one of our luxurious private vehicles, we will drive you through some truly spectacular countryside views to the Snow Monster Festival and two destinations of your choice.

MAIN TOURIST ATTRACTION :

Zao Snow Monster Festival

Mount Zao is famed for the spectacular “Snow Monsters”. A natural occurrence that can be found at the peak of mount Zao during the coldest months of the year. These snow monsters create a truly wondrous and unique scenery, together with the grand panoramic view of the surrounding nature and town, Zao makes to be one of the best scenic resorts in Japan.

FOLLOWING ATTRACTION OPTIONS :

Option 01: Ski Activity

An extensive ski course waits you at the Zao Onsen Ski Resort. The longest slope extending for 10km on the Wall of Yokokura with 38 degree incline. Zao offers an epic and diverse ski slopes for all types of skiers, from the avid ski goers to rookie skiers, there is an activity for everyone.

One Day Zao Onsen Ski Resort Ski Pass Fare (separate from Tour price, to be purchased on the spot)

Adults: JPY5000 per person. Children: JPY1500 per person.

*Private Lessons are available from 16,000 yen for a half day and from 23,000 yen One Day.

Option 02: Zao Ropeway

Zao Onsen Ski resort offers three different cable cars, giving you the opportunity to “walk in the sky” and enjoy the grand view from up above of Mount Zao. This ropeway has been registered as one of Japan’s romantic Satellites of Lover’s Sanctuary.

Entrance fee (separate from Tour price, to be purchased on the spot)

Adults (Senior High School and over) : JPY1500 per person. Children: JPY800 per person.

Option 03: Shinzaemon no Yu

Due to the complexity of Zao Mountain, it produces sulfuric waters with the most acidity in the country, at a PH value of close to 1, creating rich hot springs. This allows for the neighbouring town to create incredible onsens across the town, ranging from small, old-fashioned community baths to moderns facility with various different types of pools.

Shinzaemon no Yu is a very beautiful authentic public bath house with multiple in and outdoor pools.

Adults: JPY700 per person. Children: JPY400 per person.

Option 04: Kawarayu Public Bath

Kawarayu is one of three traditional public bath houses in Mount Zao, it is also the most unique of the three. With no signage, the building stands on top of a hot spring source with water gushing up directly into the pools, a simple wall separates the male and female areas, while still being connected with each other under the water surface.

Adults: JPY200 per person / Children: JPY100 per person.

Option 05: Shimoyu Public Bath

The Shimoyu (“lower bath house”) is one of three traditional public bath houses in the old city centre.  The unmanned facility offers two simple, gender-separated pools.

Adults: JPY200 per person. Children: JPY100 per person.

The tour will end with us dropping you off at a location of your choice in Sendai.
