DETAILED ITINERARY
We start off in Kyoto. After picking you up in one of our luxurious private vehicles, we will drive you through the three destinations of your choice.
Destination 01: Koetsuji Temple
Koetsuji is a Nichiren Buddhist temple in the Takagamine district of north west Kyoto, close to Genko-an Temple, one of the so-called “Bloody Ceiling Temples” of Kyoto and Joshoji Temple, known for its associations with the Edo Period courtesan, Yoshino Tayu II. Koetsuji Temple is well-known for its lovely garden which is particularly popular during the autumn leaf viewing season in Kyoto and for its cherry blossoms as is nearby Genko-an. At the end of the garden there are views down over Kyoto city.
Entrance fee (separate from tour price, to be purchased on the spot)
Adults: JPY300 per person
Destination 02: Nishijin weaving district
Nishijin is located in the several blocks north and west of the Imadegawa-Horikawa intersection. The most interesting sights can be found within about 20 minutes’ walk of this intersection. In addition to some museums and galleries devoted to Kyoto’s traditional weaving industry, you’ll find some small temples. Of course, more than individual sights, one of the pleasures of Nishijin is just randomly strolling and soaking up the “Old Kyoto” atmosphere.
There are also several creative experiences that you can participate on (Reservation in advanced is required)
Handweaving Experience
We have 50 mini handlooms. You can weave a table center cloth (approx. 20cm x 30cm in size).
After completing your project, you can take it home with you as a souvenir.
Scarf Making Experience
Make your own original handwoven scarf with domestically produced pure silk threads.
Silk scarf, approx. 20cm x 180 in size. It can be worn during both in the summer to stay cool, and in winter to keep warm; a perfect gift for your friends or family.
Cocoon Crafting Experience
Enjoy this simple crafting experience working with domestically grown cocoons. You can make cute animals, mascots, accessories, etc. Recommended as a great way to engage in a challenging assignment during your summer vacation.
Handmade Academy
Use Nishijin’s Kireji woven fabric and templates to create items such as tote bags, hats, Sukiya (traditionally to carry tea ceremony utensils) pouch, and others. Beginners are welcome too. You also have the option to make an authentic Amami Oshima Tsumugi, using Kireji fabric.
Destination 03: Daisenji Temple
Daisenji is a Buddhist temple located in the middle of Mt. Daisen. The temple had flourished as a training area for shugendo from 7th to 14th century. More than 100 temples and 3,000 armed priests used to be under the control of the temple at the height of its prosperity. The authority was no smaller than Mount Hiei, Mount Yoshino and Mount Koya. The temple was destroyed by fire in 1928, and reconstructed in 1951. Ogamiyama Shrine is located above the temple.
